Transportation Construction Plans (PS&E)

RTG provides complete design services for urban and rural roadway facilities from county roads to controlled-access freeways and interchanges. RTG has the ability to handle all sizes and varieties of transportation design needs, from complex traffic control plans and major interchange geometry to storm drainage systems and signing and pavement marking plans. RTG works closely with clients to develop a construction package that efficiently utilizes available funding and satisfies any other unique requirements. We are a full service prime provider with excellent relationships with our clients and other consulting firms within the engineering community.

IH 10, Bexar County - TxDOT San Antonio District (Prime)
Loop 1604 to south of Huebner Road
PS&E for mainlane, frontage road and ramp improvements to 4 miles of controlled-access freeway. This project provides interim capacity and lane balance improvements in advance of the future addition of direct connectors at the Loop 1604 interchange. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than cross-drainage, signals, illumination and structural design.

 

IH 10 - Loop 1604 Interchange, Bexar County - TxDOT San Antonio District (Prime)
IH 10 - Camp Bullis Road to Huebner Road
Loop 1604 - Kyle Seale Parkway to Lockhill-Selma

PS&E to add direct connectors and other improvements to the existing cloverleaf interchange. Project included $115 million in improvements to 5.5 miles of IH 10 to upgrade the facility to a six to ten-lane controlled-access urban section and 4.7 miles of widening Loop 1604 to an eight to ten-lane section using a combination of toll and free lanes. The PS&E was delivered at 60% completion level to be packaged with adjacent sections as a CDA project (the CDA concept was later dropped due to public concerns). RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than cross-drainage, signals, illumination, small signage and structural design.

 

IH 35, Austin - TxDOT Austin District (Prime)
At RM 620
PS&E for frontage road and intersection improvements and addition of a turnaround structure. Project included a feasibility study, refining the design data for the development of a design schematic used as the basis for the PS&E. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than structural design.

 

IH 10, Bexar County - TxDOT San Antonio District (Prime)
At Foster Road
PS&E for the reconstruction of a diamond interchange on an urban controlled-access freeway. Project included new cross street overpass structure, mainlane detours and extensive use of retaining walls. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than structural design.

 

SH 6, College Station - TxDOT Bryan District (Prime)
FM 2818 to Green's Prairie Road
PS&E for improvements to the interchange of SH 6 with Texas Avenue (BU 6), including ramp revisions, frontage road improvements along 2 miles of SH 6 and intersection improvements at two additional intersecting streets. Project included traffic operational analysis to optimize interim improvements and earthwork development of all construction phases to ensure traffic handling during construction. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than structural design.

 

IH 410, San Antonio - TxDOT San Antonio District (Subconsultant)
Ingram Road to Callaghan Road
PS&E for 2.3 miles of urban controlled-access freeway. RTG tasks included design and preparation of small and large sign layouts and details, sign bridge details, traffic control plans and associated summaries and special specifications. Project required six phases and twelve sub-phases for the TCP and included generation of a CPM and CORSIM modeling to determine incentive/disincentive user costs.

 

IH 35 - US 290W/ SH 71 Interchange, Austin - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
IH 35 - Oltorf Road to South of Stassney Lane
SH 71 - West of South Congress Avenue to Woodlawn Blvd

PS&E for a fully-directional interchange between two controlled-access freeways. RTG tasks included design and preparation of small and large sign layouts and details, sign bridge details, pavement markings and delineation, signal layouts and details and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

Loop 363, Temple - TxDOT Bridge Division / Waco District (Subconsultant)
At the UPRR
Design and PS&E development of the roadway items to facilitate the proposed UPRR bridge replacement. Project analysis of four distinct roadway options to reduce a perceived weave conflict at the SB US 290 Spur/EB Loop 363 junction.

 

IH 35 - Loop 20 (Milo Road) Interchange, Laredo - TxDOT Laredo District (Subconsultant)
PS&E for a new directional four level interchange. Traffic control during various construction phases was accomplished through the use of a temporary bridge and shoring on IH 35 and temporary detours to reroute traffic around or through the project area. RTG tasks included design and preparation of traffic control plans and construction sequencing and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

IH 40 - IH 27 Interchange, Amarillo - TxDOT Amarillo District (Subconsultant)
PS&E for the reconstruction of 1.4 miles of IH 40 and 0.5 miles of IH 27 and associated ramps and connectors. Proposed design reversed the existing IH 40 underpass to an overpass. RTG tasks included design and preparation of traffic control plans, small and large sign layouts and details, sign bridge details, pavement markings and delineation and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

US 67, San Angelo - TxDOT San Angelo District (Subconsultant)
East of Baze Street to Loop 306
PS&E for 1.6 miles of urban four-lane controlled-access freeway. RTG tasks included design and preparation of roadway details, traffic control plans, small and large sign layouts and details, sign bridge details, pavement markings and delineation and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

US 190, Killeen - TxDOT Waco District (Subconsultant)
W.S. Young to East of FM 3470
PS&E for ramp revisions, frontage road reconstruction and capacity improvements for 2 miles of urban four-lane controlled-access freeway. RTG tasks included design and preparation of small and large sign layouts and details, sign bridge details, pavement markings and delineation and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

IH 35, Laredo - TxDOT Laredo District (Subconsultant)
Southern Termini of IH 35 to Del Mar Blvd.
Design and preparation of traffic control plans for the PS&E of 2 miles of urban frontage road improvements. TCP required staggered closing of ramps and intersections.

 

IH 35, New Braunfels - TxDOT San Antonio District (Subconsultant)
Walnut Avenue to SH 46
Design and preparation of storm sewer plans for the upgrade of 3 miles of an existing rural four-lane controlled-access freeway to an eight-lane urban facility. Maintenance of drainage during traffic control was of critical importance.

SH 121 Segment 5 - Dallas North Tollway (DNT) Interchange, Collin County - North Texas Tollway Authority (Prime)
SH 121 - West of Legacy Drive to Preston Road
DNT - South of Legacy Drive to North of Gaylord Parkway

PS&E to add direct connectors and other improvements to an existing three-level diamond interchange between two six to eight-lane controlled access tollways which required improvements to 2 miles of SH 121 and 2 miles of the DNT. Project was completed on a very condensed schedule requiring constant coordination between both the NTTA and sub-providers. RTG performed all roadway design tasks and PS&E assembly (subproviders designed structures, signals, illumination, ITS, TCP sheet production, and preparation of removal sheets).

 

183A Extension, Williamson County - Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Prime)
San Gabriel Parkway to FM 1431
PS&E for a 5-mile mainlane extension (and associated ramps) of urban six-lane controlled-access tollway. Project required refinement of an existing schematic and subsequent PS&E development within a five-month schedule. Project is located within an environmentally sensitive area and included a shared-use path and over 33 retaining walls. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than signals, illumination, structural design, and landscape design.

 

SH 121 Extension, Tarrant and Johnson County - TxDOT Fort Worth District. (Prime)
FM 1187 to US 67
PS&E for 13 miles of rural four-lane divided controlled-access tollway on new-location. The project included a railroad overpass, five stream crossing bridges, 47 culverts and four cross-street overpasses. The approved project route was refined at the West Buffalo Creek crossing to facilitate 404-permit approval. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than structural design.

 

SH 45, Austin - Texas Turnpike Authority (Prime)
East of IH 35 to East of Arterial A
PS&E for 2 miles of an urban six-lane controlled-access tollway. Proposed project is along existing two and four-lane roadways and includes both rural and urban sections. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than structural design.

 

SH 130, Travis County - TxDOT Austin District (Prime)
At Cameron Road
PS&E for the addition of two ramps and associated mainlane and cross street work on SH 130 to provide access to the Austin Executive Airport. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

SH 121T (Southwest Parkway), Fort Worth - North Texas Tollway Authority (Subconsultant)
SH 121 - West of University Drive to IH 30
IH 30 - University Drive to Summit Street

PS&E for Section 1, a $122 million project which includes the interchange between SH 121T and IH 30. Project required 1.5 miles of IH 30 reconstruction, 1 mile of SH 121 on new location, mainlane bridges over the Clear Fork Trinity River, two connector bridges over the UPRR, IH 30 frontage roads, reconstruction of Forest Park Boulevard and University Drive, and 16 ramps. RTG tasks included management and coordination, IH 30 drainage, pavement marking and small sign layouts sheets, retaining wall layouts, and design cross-sections/earthwork.

 

US 290E (Segment 2), Austin - Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Subconsultant)
East of Arterial A to east of Harris Branch Parkway
PS&E for a $178 million design/build project to reconstruct 3.4 miles of four-lane divided rural highway to a six-lane tollway with continuous frontage roads. RTG tasks included management and coordination of roadway design team, roadway design, roadway detail sheets, internal drainage design, retaining wall layouts, removal sheets, and design cross-sections.

 

SH 130, Austin - Texas Turnpike Authority (Subconsultant)
Segment 2, Section 6
PS&E for a 4.5-mile section of the $1.3-billion design-build project which consists of a six-lane divided controlled-access tollway facility ultimately running from north of Georgetown to IH 10 near Seguin. Section included the directional "T" interchange at SH 45. RTG tasks included preparation of the interim and ultimate schematics, geometric design of all roadways, coordination between drainage and bridge design disciplines and PS&E development for the Section.

 

Loop 1 Field Change, Austin - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
South of Parmer Lane to Wells Branch Parkway
PS&E for a major field change to the Loop 1 Toll Road. Project included review of a design schematic provided by others and making recommendations that resulted in over $2 million in savings. RTG tasks included roadway design, retaining wall layouts, small and large sign layouts and details, sign bridge details, pavement markings and delineation, and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

SH 45 Field Change, Austin - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
At Parmer Lane
PS&E preparation of a major field change to add interchange bypass ramps at the Parmer Lane interchange. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

Loop 1, Austin - Texas Turnpike Authority (Subconsultant)
Parmer Lane to Merrilltown Drive
PS&E for 2 miles of urban six-lane controlled-access tollway along an existing four-lane roadway. RTG tasks included design and preparation of small and large sign layouts and details, sign bridge details, pavement markings and delineation, signal layouts and details and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

Camino Colombia Toll Road - IH 35 Interchange, Webb County - Camino Colombia Inc/ TxDOT Laredo District (Subconsultant)
PS&E for a new location three-level "T" interchange with two direct connectors on IH 35 north of Laredo. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly for this section other than structural design.

Loop 337, New Braunfels - TxDOT San Antonio District (Prime)
IH 35 Business to Common Street
PS&E for the upgrade of an existing rural two-lane roadway to a five-lane urban facility. Project included widening of two existing structures and one railroad overpass. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than structural design.

 

Colonial Drive, Cleburne - TxDOT Fort Worth District (Prime)
PS&E for 0.5 miles of three-lane urban arterial to connect the existing north and south segments of Colonial Drive. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

A.W. Grimes Blvd., Round Rock - City of Round Rock (Prime)
Louis Henna Blvd. to US 79
Preparation of two complete sets of PS&E for 3 miles of new location six-lane divided urban arterial. Projects included preparation of bid packages and evaluation of contractor bids. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than structural design.

 

Chisholm Trail, Williamson County - City of Round Rock (Prime)
Sam Bass Road to FM 3406
PS&E for 1.2 miles of upgrading a two-lane rural roadway to a five-lane urban section. Project included the development of numerous TCP's for the proposed bridge construction. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than structural design.

 

McNeil Road, Round Rock - City of Round Rock (Prime)
At County Road 172
PS&E for the reconstruction of an intersection on a four-lane urban arterial roadway with a two-lane county road adjacent to a railroad mainline. Project utilized TxDOT standards and specifications with review and funding by the Austin District. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

New Hope Road, Cedar Park - City of Cedar Park (Prime)
PS&E for the upgrade of 2 miles of two-lane rural roadway to an urban four-lane divided and five-lane section. Three plan sets were developed to allow the project to be let as separate construction projects. Project included preparation of bid package and evaluation of contractor bids. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly other than traffic signals.

 

Bagdad Road, Cedar Park - City of Cedar Park (Prime)
PS&E to upgrade 2 miles of a two-lane rural roadway to an urban four-lane divided section. GEOPAK criteria files were specially written to accomplish variable depth overlay and widening. Project included preparation of bid package and evaluation of contractor bids. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

RM 2244 (Bee Caves Road), Travis County - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
Westwood Drive to Monticello Road
Hydraulic analysis and the design of detention and water quality facilities, storm sewer systems, and cross drainage culverts for the widening of 1.2 miles of four-lane rural roadway to an urban four-lane divided section.

 

US 290, Elgin - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
PS&E preparation for the reconstruction of 1.2 miles of a five-lane roadway in a highly urbanized area. RTG tasks included design and preparation of traffic control plans and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

FM 1460, Williamson County - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
US 79 to North of Double Creek Road
Preparation of drainage and erosion control plans for 2 miles of widening a two-lane rural roadway to a five-lane urban section.

 

SH 36, Fort Bend County - TxDOT Houston District (Subconsultant)
Needville to Brazoria County Line
PS&E for the reconstruction of 6.4 miles of two-lane rural roadway to a four-lane divided section. RTG performed roadway design and roadway P&P sheet preparation.

 

SH 57 (Grande Blvd), Tyler - TxDOT Tyler District (Subconsultant)
SH 155 to FM 2493
PS&E preparation of a 1.6 mile urban five-lane roadway on new location. RTG tasks included earthwork design and the design and preparation of small sign layouts and details, traffic control plans (requiring some county road closures), detour layouts, and associated summaries and special specifications.

US 83, Junction (Kimble County) - TxDOT San Angelo District (Prime)
South of IH 10 to 6.4 Miles north of IH 10
PS&E for the conversion of 6.4 miles of an existing two and four-lane roadway to a four-lane divided trunk system facility. Project required earthwork development of all construction phases, extensive drainage analysis and storm drain design, driveway and utility coordination and geotechnical investigations. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

US 181, Bee and San Patricio County - TxDOT Corpus Christi District (Prime)
Sullivan Street in Skidmore to SH 89 Sinton Relief Route
PS&E for the conversion of 15.4 miles of an existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided trunk system facility. Project included both flush and open median sections. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly except for drainage design at bridge class crossings.

 

RM 1431, Austin - TxDOT Austin District (Prime)
West of Trails End Road to East of Vista Oaks Drive
PS&E to reconstruct 1.7 miles of an existing four-lane rural roadway to a five-lane section with shoulders. Project included providing expert witness testimony on behalf of TxDOT at ROW condemnation hearings. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

FM 1719, Amarillo (Potter County) - TxDOT Amarillo District (Prime)
Loop 335 to US 87/ US 287
PS&E to upgrade 6.5 miles of two county roads (Western Blvd. and Givens Road) to an FM highway. Project required detailed earthwork analysis of all TCP phases to ensure constructability under traffic. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

SH 204, Nacogdoches County - TxDOT Lufkin District (Prime)
Cherokee County Line to west of Cushing (HES)
East of FM 2783 to Trawick (widening)

Two sets of PS&E along a two-lane rural highway: one for 12.8 miles of HES improvements (including 55 cross-drain culvert extensions) and one for the widening of 5.9 miles to add shoulders and passing lanes.

 

SH 7, Nacogdoches County - TxDOT Lufkin District (Prime)
Northeast of Angelina River to FM 2782
PS&E to widen 2.7 miles of rural two-lane highway to add shoulders and passing lanes.

 

FM 204 (Clark Road), Taylor County - TxDOT Abilene District (Prime)
US 83/US 84 to FM 1750
PS&E for the upgrade of 3.8 miles of a county road to a Farm to Market highway. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

PR 22 (JFK Causeway) - TxDOT Corpus Christi District (Subconsultant)
Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Bridge to Aquarius Drive
PS&E for 1.2 miles of rural divided highway to reconstruct the facility above hurricane tidal action and provide for capacity and safety improvements. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly for this section.

 

FM 2264, Wise County - TxDOT Fort Worth District (Subconsultant)
At Oliver Creek
PS&E for the replacement of an on-system bridge. RTG performed geometric design, development of the TCP and detour layout that included the use of one-lane, two-way traffic and a temporary signal, and the hydraulic analysis and design of culverts and ditches.

 

FM 2258, Johnson County - TxDOT Fort Worth District (Subconsultant)
At Cottonwood Creek
RTG performed preparation of construction sequencing and TCP for the replacement of an on-system bridge. Due to high traffic volumes, the TCP maintained the existing number of travel lanes and utilized one-lane, two-way traffic for short-term construction of the roadway ties.

 

RM 1826, Travis County - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
At US 290
PS&E preparation to widen a two-lane rural roadway to add turn lanes for a new hospital and at the "T" intersection with US 290 West. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

FM 1325, Travis County - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
CR 172 and Shoreline Drive intersections
Preparation of two complete sets of PS&E for the widening of an existing four-lane rural roadway to a five-lane section. RTG performed all design tasks and PS&E assembly.

 

RM 1431, Burnett County - TxDOT Austin District (Subconsultant)
Smithwick Road to Travis County Line
PS&E for the reconstruction and geometry improvements of 6 miles of a narrow, winding two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided section. RTG tasks included design and preparation of culvert plans for 15 cross-drainage structures and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

SH 36, Fort Bend County - TxDOT Houston District (Subconsultant)
Needville to Brazoria County Line
PS&E for the reconstruction of 6.4 miles of two-lane rural roadway to a four-lane divided section. RTG performed roadway design and roadway P&P sheet preparation.

 

Loop 20, Webb County - TxDOT Laredo District (Subconsultant)
IH 35 to International Bridge
PS&E for a new location roadway. Project also required reconstruction and widening of 1 mile of FM 1472 including a direct connector to Loop 20 and reconstruction of 0.5 miles of FM 3464 to accommodate the connection with Loop 20. Construction phasing was developed to minimize disruption to extremely heavy truck traffic. RTG tasks included design and preparation of traffic control plans, retaining wall layouts, and associated summaries.

 

FM 2657, Lampasas County - TxDOT Brownwood District (Subconsultant)
US 190 to County Road 23
PS&E for the reconstruction of 4.5 miles of a two-lane roadway to a five-lane section. RTG tasks included design and preparation of storm sewer and culvert plans and associated summaries and special specifications.

 

FM 604, Callahan County - TxDOT Abilene District (Subconsultant)
IH 20 to existing FM 604 south of Clyde
Design and preparation of traffic control plans for the PS&E for the realignment to new location of 1.5 miles of two-lane rural highway.
